A Hidden Gem in Etobicoke That’s Big on Flavour

You ever pass by a place so many times that it starts calling out to you? That was me and Thammada, a small Thai restaurant on Lakeshore Boulevard West. Every time I walked by, I’d glance at the signboard and pause.

The fonts on the sign gave me Malayalam vibes, and for a second, I thought it was a Kerala joint. But one look inside and I realized, this wasn’t appam and stew territory. This was green, cozy, Thai paradise.

And guess what? My gut was right. This place turned out to be a total gem.

First Impressions: Good Vibes Only

I had made a reservation (thankfully), so I was seated right away. The server came over, smiled, and asked if it was my first time. When I said yes, he didn’t just hand me a menu, he curated an experience. He walked me through their house specials, made genuine recommendations, and somehow struck the perfect balance between friendly and chill. None of that overbearing “check on you every 5 minutes” stuff.

The interior? Small, lush, aesthetic. Green plants everywhere, wooden touches, and soft warm lighting, it feels like a secret oasis. The kind of spot where you want to sit back, take your time, and just enjoy the moment (and maybe sneak a few pics for your story).

What I Ordered, and Why I’m Still Thinking About It

Thai Iced Milk Tea

Light, refreshing, and just the right amount of sweet. Gave me boba tea nostalgia, but cleaner and more grown-up. A great way to start the meal.

Chicken Satay

Juicy, tender chicken skewers. But let me be real: the peanut sauce deserves its own award. Rich, velvety, nutty, borderline addictive. Easily the best I’ve had in the city. If you're going here with a friend, this is the app to share (or not).

Thammada Special Fried Rice

Egg, chicken, and shrimp, this fried rice gives you all the protein love in one dish. It’s loaded but balanced, and that glorious smoky wok hei finish takes it to another level. It’s the kind of fried rice that doesn’t play backup, it’s a main event. Big portion, bold flavours, and pairs perfectly with the next dish…

Beef Chilli Basil Stir Fry

This surprised me. I expected a dry stir fry, but what I got was a flavour-packed, lightly brothy version. Honestly? Loved it more this way. The beef was slightly chewy but full of flavour, and the veggies added that much-needed crunch. Medium spicy actually meant medium spicy, warm enough to feel, mild enough to enjoy.

The Verdict: Go. Just Go.

Thammada is more than just a place to eat. It’s an experience, from the service to the setting to the food. Whether you’re a Thai food regular or just Thai-curious, this spot should be on your list.

It’s cozy enough for date night, chill enough for solo dinners, and flavourful enough to turn you into a repeat customer.

My Ratings:

Food: 4.5/5

Service: 5/5

Ambience: 4.5/5

(Bonus points for that peanut sauce)
